Installed these for the holidays, but I ended up leaving them up year-round
I originally put these up mainly because I wanted something along the roofline for the holidays.
Once they were installed, though, I realized I liked them just as much with the simpler colors the rest of the year.
They’re brighter than I expected, and changing the color or brightness from the app is much easier than going outside and messing with anything manually.
For Christmas we use the more colorful effects, but most normal evenings I keep the lighting much more subtle.
Installation wasn’t difficult, but measuring the whole roofline before starting definitely helped. I’m glad I didn’t just guess the length.
At this point I don’t really see a reason to take them down every season.

One of the most common questions about permanent eave lighting is whether “permanent” simply means the lights can stay mounted, or whether they are actually designed to remain outdoors through changing weather.
Here’s what to check before planning the installation.

The OL1 lighting system is rated IP67 and is designed for permanent outdoor installation on rooflines, eaves, soffits, porches, patios and similar exterior locations. LightingWill lists rain, snow and changing outdoor weather among its intended conditions.
For a long-term installation, however, the light rating is only part of the job.
The mounting surface should be clean and dry before installation, the fixtures and accessories should be firmly secured, and wiring should not be excessively bent or damaged.
Plan the full route before mounting the lights permanently, especially around roof corners, downspouts and transitions between eaves.

I mainly wanted some extra lighting around the front porch without adding another big wall fixture.
What surprised me is that these don’t have to look like colorful party lights all the time.
I keep the porch setting fairly simple most nights and it gives the front of the house a nice glow without being too much.
When there’s a holiday or people coming over, then I’ll change the colors and effects from the app.
Installation was easier than I expected and I’m happy with how much more finished the entrance looks at night.

50FT or 100FT — how much outdoor eave lighting do I actually need?
I’m planning to run these across the front of a two-car garage and then continue over the porch.
I initially thought 50FT would be plenty, but once I started measuring the corners and the section over the front door it looks closer than I expected.
Is there any downside to going with the 100FT version if I’m not completely sure yet?

The OL1 is currently available in 50FT and 100FT versions, so the best approach is to measure the intended mounting route rather than estimating from the width of the house.
Include the actual path around:
roofline sections, garage eaves, porch transitions, corners and any areas where the installation route changes direction.
If your measurement is already close to 50FT, choosing the longer option gives you more flexibility than planning an installation with almost no margin.
LightingWill specifically recommends selecting the length based on the installation area and planning the route before permanently mounting the lights.
