Finished the cove lighting in our living room — going with 24V made the layout easier
I finally finished the LED lighting around the ceiling in our living room.
The room has a fairly long cove, so I went with the 24V strip instead of the 12V version. I split the run rather than trying to power everything from one end, and that worked out well.
I chose warm white because this is mostly evening lighting. The strip itself is hidden from normal view, so I wasn’t too worried about seeing individual LEDs.
The hardest part honestly wasn’t the wiring — it was getting the strip perfectly straight around the longer sections before pressing the adhesive down.
Really happy with how subtle it looks when the main ceiling lights are off.

For longer installations such as ceiling coves, 24V strips are often convenient because they are well suited to larger lighting runs when the power layout is planned correctly.

I only have a 5mm groove behind the mirror — will the 4mm strip fit?
I’m building lighting behind a bathroom mirror and the routed slot is just under 5mm wide.
Most of the LED tape I already own is 8mm or 10mm, so none of it will fit.
I noticed there’s a 4mm PCB version with 120 LEDs/m. Is the PCB actually only 4mm wide, or should I leave extra room around it?
The current narrow SMD2835 model uses a 4mm PCB and 120 LEDs/m, specifically giving you an option for installations where standard-width strips are too wide.
We still recommend measuring the actual groove before installation and leaving enough clearance for the strip, solder joints and wiring.
60 or 120 LEDs/m for kitchen cabinets — is 120 worth it?
I need about 15 feet of warm white strip under our kitchen cabinets.
I’m deciding between the 60 and 120 LEDs/m versions. The strip will be mounted toward the front edge of the cabinets, so you may catch a reflection on the countertop.
Is 120 LEDs/m noticeably smoother, or would 60 be enough once it’s installed?
If the strip or its reflection will be visible, 120 LEDs/m is generally the better starting point for a more closely spaced light source.
For hidden indirect lighting, 60 LEDs/m may already be sufficient.
LightingWill currently offers both 60 and 120 LEDs/m SMD2835 versions in 12V and 24V, so you can choose density separately from the supply voltage.
The 5mm strip was exactly what I needed for these narrow display shelves
I added lighting to a glass display cabinet that has very shallow shelves and almost no room to hide a normal LED strip.
I originally tried an 8mm strip but you could see too much of it from the front.
The 5mm version worked much better. It tucked behind the small lip on each shelf and was easier to keep out of sight.
I used warm white because the cabinet has wood shelves and mostly decorative pieces inside.
The wiring took longer than the actual strip installation because I wanted to keep everything hidden down one side of the cabinet.

Warm + cool white strip or just pick one color temperature?
I’m adding lighting around a makeup mirror and can’t decide whether to buy a normal single-color white strip or the warm + cool white version.
Most of the time I’d probably use a neutral setting, but I can see the warmer light being nicer at night.
Does the dual-white strip actually give useful adjustment, or does it just make the controller setup more complicated?
The dual-color strip makes sense when you want adjustable white light rather than one fixed color temperature.
The current model combines warm white and cool white on an 8mm PCB with 120 LEDs/m, allowing the two channels to be controlled to create different white-light settings.
If you already know you will always use one color temperature, a single-color strip is the simpler option.
The S-shape strip made the curved sections of my sign much easier
I was building a small wall sign for a game room and needed the LED strip to follow several curves.
I tried doing it with a normal strip first, but every tight change in direction turned into an awkward bend or a separate piece of wire.
The S-shape strip was much easier to work with because it could actually follow the shape without me trying to fold the PCB.
Mine is indoors, so the non-waterproof version was fine.
It still took some patience around the tighter parts, but the finished outline looks a lot cleaner than my first attempt.
That’s exactly where the S-Shape model is most useful.
The current 6mm SMD2835 S-Shape strip uses 60 LEDs/m and is designed for layouts that need to follow curved or irregular paths. It is a non-waterproof indoor strip and is offered in multiple white and decorative colors.
Which flexible LED strip should you choose for your project?
Flexible LED strips can look very similar before installation, but PCB width, LED density, voltage and strip shape can make one model much better suited to a project than another.
Here’s a simple way to narrow down the current range.
For standard cabinets, shelves and coves, start with the 8mm SMD2835 60 or 120 LEDs/m models.
For very narrow installations, choose one of the 4mm or 5mm PCB options.
For curves and irregular shapes, the 6mm S-Shape strip is designed to follow paths that are difficult for a conventional straight PCB.
For high-density lighting, the collection includes 240 LEDs/m single-row and 480 LEDs/m double-row options.
For adjustable white, choose the Warm White + Cool White dual-color strip.
For larger or longer projects, compare 12V and 24V versions before choosing the power supply.
For dry indoor installations, IP00 is available on many models, while selected strips also offer IP67 protection for projects needing additional moisture resistance.
